Police Clearance Certificates from Italy, Netherlands and Australia

For the purpose of applying for a migration visa, citizenship or employment you may be required to provide a Police Clearance Certificate (Certificato penale) also known as National Police Certificate, Penal Clearance certificate, certificate of good conduct or police check from a country where you have resided in the past as part of the character to be satisfied.

For example, if you are applying for an Australian visa you are required satisfy the character check requirements by providing Police Clearance Certificate or other evidence from each country where you have lived-in for 12 months or more in the last 10 years, since turning 16 years of age.

For visa applications with the Australian Department of Home Affairs (i.e. Australian Department of Immigration) it is considered that you have “lived” in a given country regardless of the fact that you may have lived for consecutive 12 months or for shorter period of times that add up to 12 months or more in the last ten years.

Police Clearance Certificates from Italy

The Police Certificates from Italy will be written in Italian. To comply with Government Departments' requirement, you will need also a certified English translation of your certificates.

Australian National Police Check



A National Police Check issued by the Australian Federal Police (AFP) provides information on an individual's disclosable court outcomes and pending charges sourced from the databases of all Australian police jurisdictions, for specific purposes such as:


  • seeking employment with the Commonwealth Government
  • Australian immigration purposes
  • where the applicant resides overseas
  • overseas employment
  • overseas adoption
  • visa applications for overseas travel, Immigration, overseas employment and more.

    • In order to process an AFP Police Check, the applicant is required to provide the following documentation and information:

  • A minimum of 100 points identification . Documents not in English must be accompanied by an official translation.
  • Personal contact information
  • Residential history for the past ten years

    • In order for foreign governments to accept Australian National Police Check, they require proof that the official signatures on the documents are genuine, the certificate needs to be authenticated or stamped in the form of an Apostille.
